The need for early childhood experiences in literature, art, music, dance and other forms of creative expression is the major emphasis of the Cultural Arts Committee. The Cultural Arts program at Willow Springs Elementary School enables students to experience a variety of performances offered by professional artists.   These artists and educators have been evaluated and approved by the United Arts of Wake County. The disciplines available to choose from include theater, literary, dance, art, music, folk art, and story telling.

Rapunzel

Adapted by Max Bush

Rapunzel

Adapted by renowned playwright Max Bush, this production stays true to the mystery and enchantment of the original Brothers Grimm fairy tale. Theo and Helga long for a child of their own, as does Gothal, the powerful witch who lives next door. When Gothal catches Theo stealing from her walled garden, she forces him to give her his first born daughter, who she names Rapunzel. Imprisoned in a tower, Rapunzel spends her lonely days longing for companionship – until she meets the charming Prince Derrick. The young couple must rely on their love and courage to overcome the witch’s power.

"BRASS CAN DO ANYTHING"

Beginning with a blast from a prehistoric cow horn, students are immediately engaged in an action-packed program that musically portrays the history of the brass family. Along the way, students learn about the various music periods and connections to world history, science, and math. Students will learn how valves work, why smaller instruments sound higher and larger instruments sound lower, why trombones have slides, and tubas are so large. The program culminates with selected students making music alongside the ensemble.
