The Speech/Language Program at Willow Springs provides services to students in grades K through 5 who exhibit communication difficulty. The areas of need include; Articulation/ phonology (the development and production of speech sounds), Language (receptive and/ or expressive skills which may impact meaning, structure and function), Fluency (difficulty in maintaining the normal flow of speech), and Voice (differences in voice quality, often caused by chronic vocal abuse).

Students can be referred by classroom teachers or parents. However, they must meet eligibility criteria based on state and county requirements.

Students that are eligible for services are seen in small groups or individually. They are generally pulled out of their regular class, but they can also be seen in an integrative setting in the classroom. Consultative services are sometimes also appropriate.

At the beginning of this school year, all first grade and Kindergarten students participated in hearing screenings. Our school has an Audiologist who will come to do follow-up screenings as needed. If a child needs to be referred for hearing testing, contact the Speech/ Language therapist.
