From the Desk of Mrs. Blackmon

Assistant Principal

July 2009

Each new school year presents itself with new challenges.  This year we were sad to loose staff members from the Willow Springs family due to budget cuts and reassignment.  The staff continues to maintain that “family feel”; although we will miss those who are no longer with us.  We are glad to welcome back our returning students and those students who are new to the Willow Spring family, home of the Baby Bengals.

The united school spirit continues as we look forward to another great year. We are proud of the successes of our students. Student achievement and success are of upmost importance to us.  We aim for students to gain the necessary skills to be successful and feel good about themselves.  This year we will focus on students self worth by filling them with the positives.  Our friendly, nurturing staff will continue to embrace every opportunity to celebrate and encourage your child’s success and performance in school.

Part of student success is linked to attendance.  For students to have the best chance at success at school, everyday is important.  When a student misses school, arrives late or leaves early, the student misses time participating in discussions, asking pertinent questions and interacting with teachers and peers.  It’s hard to get back lost time when a student misses school.  It is Willow Springs' expectation that all students maintain a high attendance rate to increase their success in school. We appreciate your support with student attendance.

Parental involvement is another one of the keys to a successful school experience and this applies to both students and parents.  I encourage you to learn about PTA activities.  They do an immense amount of work to support programs within our school.  We also welcome volunteers, so please stop by at your convenience to register as a volunteer.  Volunteer clearance is required for attendance on school field trips as well as helping out in the classroom.

We want to ensure that we are following your requests regarding student transportation.  Anytime that you change the way your child is going home at dismissal time, please write a note to your child’s teacher.  All requests for bus changes should be sent to the office for signed approval. We are excited about our new car pool signs.  Stop by the office to get your new sign.

Thank you for your continuing support.  If you have questions, please do not hesitate to call.  I look forward to working with you and your child throughout the year to provide a productive and safe learning environment that supports student success.

Sincerely,

Melissa Blackmon
Assistant Principal
