The Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) is governed by a nine-member board of education. The members are elected from nine separate districts in the county and serve staggered four-year terms. The attendance area of Willow Springs Elementary School is located in District 2 (Southeast Wake). Horace Tart ( write_link('Mr. Horace J. Tart','htart') E-mail Mr. Horace J. Tart ) is presently our representative. His term expires November 2009.
The school board determines the policies that the superintendent and administrative staff will follow as they manage the school system's day-to-day operation. The board has the authority to review the WCPSS Budget, but it does not have the authority to impose a tax. The school board must submit its annual budget requests to the Wake County Board of Commissioners which controls allocation of funds to the schools. County Commissioner Lindy Brown (District 2) represents Willow Springs on the Wake County Board of Commissioners.
In North Carolina, the basic public education program is funded by the state and is augmented with local funds.
